Hey. Remember me? The guy who had quite the story about the Rosalina amiibo?
Well, as you Yanks know, Wave 4 came out today. And I had absolutely nothing pre-ordered.
So I made it my resolve to get to Target early. My goal: to obtain ten of the twelve new amiibo (no Ness and Greninja if you didn't pre-order).
Here's how it went.
I arrived at 7:30. Target opens at 8. I brought the other inhabitants of my home as well just in case Target would enforce their 2 characters per person policy (it meant two of the same character per person, but I didn't want to take any risks). My goal was to get as many as I could, but the four I wanted above all else were Jigglypuff, Robin, Lucina, and Silver Mario. So I ended up waiting in line. One guy in a hoodie asked me if I was an amiibo hunter as well. Yeah, I was. He told me he wanted Lucina.
A woman standing by the front (there wasn't a long line at all- about sevenish people. As long as they don't have, say, four of each, I'll be fine) with her kid decided to move back so that they were ahead of me (I was still last in line). She told me they could go behind me, but I wasn't worried. She was there for her son, who had to be in fourth or fifth grade. They were really nice. A few more people came, but it was mostly just a large number of employees going back and forth. At 8, they opened the door. I couldn't see very well, but I heard that we were to go in a line and follow an employee to the amiibo section. So we did.
I couldn't even get in until Jigglypuff, Robin, and Lucina were gone. There weren't many people, but somehow, more people ended up ahead. An old man ripped Jigglypuff out of the kid's hands and ended up grabbing quite a few for his five grandchildren. The kid said that there was a 2 per person policy, which a few others repeated, but when we asked an employee if there was any limit, he said no. While this was going on, I had grabbed both Inklings, Charizard, Pac-Man, and Wario. There looked to be no more than two each of Robin and Lucina, so I'd given up. At least I could still get Jigglypuff, Silver Mario, and the Splatoon triple pack- they were behind the counter at the checkout. The woman thought that they were only for pre-orders, but I said that Target doesn't do pre-orders in store. So I despaired a bit because there was no way I could ever get Robin and Lucina now. I saw the person with the last of each in line. One of my family members talked to the old man about how ridiculous he was being, but he simply said that we should've gotten there earlier. (I know this is kind of jumbled- that's how it happened. It was all at once.) I asked the guy behind the counter for Jigglypuff, Silver Mario, and the triple pack (because there was an extremely large number of them- definitely over twenty of each), and he grabbed them for me. Then, Arceus, Naga, Hylia, Grambi, and whatever gods Pac-Man and the Inklings worship smiled upon me. There was one group in front of me where I was checking out- the woman and her son. For whatever reason- he forgot them, he didn't want them, whatever- the man in front of us, the last one with Robin ad Lucina- he left them behind. And the kid only wanted Jigglypuff.
The woman casually grabbed the two forgotten amiibo (upon confirming with the guy at the checkout that we could buy them) and slipped them into my basket. I had successfully nabbed all ten that I had come for (and this time, I really did get the last Robin and Lucina. There were people behind me, so if I'd come any later than I had, I would not have gotten them). As I was leaving, I saw the guy in the hoodie checking out. For whatever reason, he was behind me. Did I feel a bit bad knowing that I had the last of the amiibo he had come for? Yeah, but I came for it too, and I already had an extreme stroke of luck. I wasn't giving that up.
The kid was pretty educated for someone at his age. He talked about scalpers, he knew about the two per customer policy (which this time my Target didn't follow... even though it followed the four per customer policy of Rosalina). It was quite an ordeal.
But in the end...
I succeeded.
